Kamogelo Matona, also known as the "Queen of Amapiano," discovered her love for dancing at a young age. Her early exposure to the entertainment world, accompanying her father to YFM and various events, paved the way for her to showcase her dancing skills on stage. This exposure increased as she performed at live events, gaining recognition through her captivating dance performances.
Initially trying her hand at acting by being an extra on the TV soap Isibaya, Matona realized that her true passion lay in dancing. She gained popularity by sharing dance videos on Instagram, earning her the title "Queen of Amapiano" due to her exceptional dance skills.
In 2019, she signed with Major League Music and released her EP titled "Twentee" under the label. Matona's musical journey includes the release of songs like "Suka Emabozen" and "Menemene." She collaborated with South African singer Busiswa on the single "Sbwl" and featured on the MFR Soulz single "Amanikiniki," reaching the #1 spot on Good Hope FM's SA House Music Top 10 Chart. Matona has also worked with artists such as Nadia Nakai and Killer Kau.
Known for her versatility, Matona has danced to various South African music genres like gqom, kwaito, and pantsula, aside from amapiano. Her influence extends to popular amapiano songs like "Sukendleleni" and "Labantwana Ama Uber."
On October 11, 2023, Matona, along with Tyler ICU and Khalil Harrison, released the song "Dalie" featuring Baby S.O.N. The track quickly gained success, debuting at number 1 in Malawi, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, and reaching the 11th position on the global Shazam charts. "Dalie" achieved 2 million digital streams in just 4 days, earning it a Gold certification in South Africa, later reaching Platinum certification.
Private Life
There were speculations about Kamo Mphela being romantically involved with Focalistic after she allegedly shared a screenshot of a video call with him on social media. Despite a mutual friend hinting at their romantic connection, neither Focalistic nor Kamo has responded to these rumors.
During her performance at the DSTV Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards (DSTV MVCA) in 2020, Kamo Mphela experienced a wardrobe malfunction when her pants ripped off just as she was about to entertain the audience. She could only stay on stage for a brief moment before quickly heading backstage.
