Early Life

Boitumelo Thulo, born on April 28, 1990, in Potchefstroom, South Africa, holds South African citizenship. Growing up in Potchefstroom, North West, she is currently based in the Gauteng Province.

Boity's early life was shaped by her maternal grandmother, as her mother, Modiehi Thulo, struggled financially after giving birth to her in 1990. Boity, being her mother's only child, faced challenges in meeting basic needs during her upbringing.

Her educational journey began at The High School for Girls Potchefstroom, where she laid the foundation for her future. Later, she enrolled at Monas University to pursue studies in Psychology and Criminology. However, due to financial constraints, Boity had to discontinue her education as her family couldn't afford the school fees.

Undeterred, she entered the entertainment scene by joining a casting agency, a decision that led to her appearance in a Wimpy commercial in 2010. Boity Thulo's resilience and determination became evident as she navigated challenges to carve her path in the South African media and entertainment landscape.

Career

Boity Thulo stepped into the spotlight during her early 20s, establishing herself as a woman who fearlessly pursues her dreams, overcoming obstacles along the way. Her story serves as a source of inspiration for numerous South African women.

Film and Television

Boity's journey in the world of film and television commenced with her role as a presenter on the YOTV educational show "Crib Notes" in 2011. This marked the beginning of a flourishing career that included co-hosting the SABC 1 The Media Career Guide Show alongside Thomani Mahlaba. Her hosting prowess extended to various television shows, such as SkyRoom Live, Ridiculousness Africa, Club 808, Zoned, Change Down, and Big Brother Africa.

In 2012, Thulo took on a significant role in the drama series Rockville, portraying "Mpho Bogatsu" throughout all four seasons. This marked her first starring role and showcased her versatility in the acting realm. Boity's foray into film occurred in 2014 with her debut in the comedy short-film Dear Betty, where she portrayed the character "Betty." She also had a notable appearance in the film Mrs. Right Guy (2016), playing the character "Marie."

Boity's achievements and influence were recognized in October 2021 when she received a nomination for the African Social Star category at the 47th People's Choice Awards. This acknowledgment further solidified her position as a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, both in South Africa and beyond.

Music

Boity Thulo marked her entry into the rap scene during the Migos Culture Tour in South Africa on October 21, 2017, held at the TicketPro Dome. The event took an unexpected turn as Migos faced delays, leading Boity to step in as one of the opening acts alongside Nasty C until the trio's arrival.

On August 30, 2018, Boity released her debut single, "Wuz Dat?", featuring Nasty C. This track achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first platinum-certified single by a female rapper in South Africa. It not only secured its place as the best-selling single of all time by a female rapper in the country but also earned the title of "Best Collaboration" at the 2018 South African Hip Hop Awards. Boity's accomplishment made her the first lead female rapper to clinch this award.

Continuing her musical journey, she dropped her second single, "Bakae," on February 8, 2019. The momentum further intensified as Boity headlined the Rose Fest in October 2022, sharing the stage with artists like Ami Faku, Simmy, and Busiswa.

December 4, 2020, saw the release of Boity's EP titled "4436," a project predominantly focused on her, featuring collaborations with Riky Rick and various other artists. The album's excellence was acknowledged with a nomination for Best Hip Hop Album at the 27th South African Music Awards.

In 2021, Boity announced that she had signed a recording deal with Def Jam Africa, making her a trailblazer in the industry. This announcement was followed by the revelation of her upcoming single, "The yano way," featuring Daliwonga and Felo, set to be released on August 19, 2021, as she shared on her Instagram account. In 2016, Boity Thulo joined forces with Sissy-Boy for a special jean collection, focusing on themes of "being sexy and celebrating curves." The collaboration was well-received, setting the stage for another release in July 2018, as the partnership with Sissy-Boy continued to flourish.

Expanding her reach into the world of fragrances, Boity partnered with Impulse SA in 2018 to create limited edition scents. This venture showcased her versatility not only in fashion but also in the realm of beauty. Simultaneously, Boity graced the cover of the September issue of Cosmopolitan SA, further solidifying her presence in the fashion and lifestyle scene.

In 2021, Boity introduced her new line of beverage products, encompassing both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, under the brand name "BT Signature." This announcement marked her foray into the beverage industry, adding another dimension to her expanding portfolio. Personal Life

Boity Thulo, the renowned television personality, is presently unmarried but is in a relationship with Anton Jeftha. Although they initially kept their relationship private, Boity confirmed their status as a couple in early 2022.

When it comes to relationships, Boity has had various experiences. She was once engaged to rapper Cassper Nyovest, navigating an on-and-off relationship. 

Back in 2011, Boity was in a relationship with Khaya Dlanga, a former communication manager at Coca-Cola South Africa. Their connection faced scrutiny due to a significant age difference.

In 2014, Greg Borowsky was Boity's boyfriend, and after their breakup, the South African music producer and songwriter relocated to the United States.

In 2018, she was romantically involved with Nigerian filmmaker Stanley Obiamalu, and their relationship reportedly lasted for several years before coming to an end in 2019. 

There were false rumors circulating about Boity being engaged to international singer Chris Brown, but these speculations were debunked as untrue. The two were neither engaged nor in a relationship.

In October 2021, Boity faced a challenging situation when she was hospitalized after a confrontation with Bugy Bikwa, a former Metro FM presenter. Videos from the incident depicted her covered in blood. Taking time off social media to recover, Boity returned a few weeks later, expressing gratitude for the support received during her healing process. Following the altercation, Bikwa was arrested, posted bail, and initiated a lawsuit against Boity for verbal assault. Despite the legal turmoil, Boity has fully healed, thanking her fans and friends for their unwavering support during the tough period.
